The Social Servant was founded by a practical nurse with 19 years of experience, much of it dedicated to supporting seniors and individuals with disabilities. Her passion for service is deeply personal. Since living with a disability herself since 2022 and experiencing a period of total physical dependence from others, she understands firsthand the importance of compassionate, reliable support.
This life-changing experience inspired her to advocate for unheard voices and devote two years to volunteering in social and community service at the Dr. Leo S. Butler Center. These experiences are the driving force behind The Social Servants and its unwavering commitment to helping others live with dignity, comfort, and confidence.
Our mission
We identify needs, create programs, and connect people with solutions. At The Social Servant, our mission is to empower others, especially seniors and individuals with disabilities across Baton Rouge by fostering independence, bridging digital gaps, and enhancing access to vital community resources.
Our vision
We envision an inclusive Baton Rouge where every senior and person with a disability can live with dignity, meaningful independence, and lifelong connection. By continually identifying community needs and removing barriers to technology, healthcare navigation, and essential resources, we are building a community where no one is left behind—a community where needs are recognized, people are connected, and practical programs create lasting opportunities for individuals and neighborhoods to thrive.
Core Values
Every initiative at The Social Servant is rooted in our commitment to uplifting underserved communities with disabilities in Baton Rouge through respect, accessibility, and meaningful support.
We also believe that lasting change begins with advocacy and connection. By partnering with local families, service providers, and community leaders, we help amplify the voices of people with disabilities, reduce barriers to essential resources, and create opportunities for greater independence, inclusion, and belonging.
Service
We lead with a genuine commitment to serving others.
By listening closely, responding thoughtfully, and putting people first, we build trust that lasts. Every interaction is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference, and we approach that responsibility with empathy, integrity, and care.
We also believe in continuous improvement. By seeking feedback, learning from every experience, and embracing better ways to serve, we strengthen our relationships and deliver value that grows over time.
Dignity and independence
We honor the lived experiences and autonomy of every individual. Our community programs empower people in underserved communities to make informed choices and live fulfilling, self-directed lives in their own homes and neighborhoods.
We also create meaningful connections that reduce isolation and strengthen communities. Through social activities, resource navigation, and opportunities to build supportive relationships, participants can stay engaged, pursue their interests, and remain connected to the people and places that matter most.
Impact
We focus on programs that produce meaningful, measurable differences in people's lives Accountability — We track outcomes, learn from evidence, and communicate transparently so every resource contributes to lasting progress.
Collaborative service
Meaningful change happens together. We listen closely to unmet needs across Baton Rouge and partner with local families, advocates, and organizations to deliver lasting, responsive solutions. We recognize that meaningful change happens when people and organizations work together.
Building Stronger Community Connections
By bringing diverse voices to the table, we help create solutions rooted in lived experience and shared goals. Our collaborative approach strengthens local networks, builds trust, and empowers Baton Rouge residents to take an active role in shaping a more equitable, thriving community.
